This boat must have been a beauty in it's prime- the beautiful carvel-built hull is still smooth and I hope you can see the gorgeous lines and angles of each plank as they radiate backwards. A gem. This is on the greenest, most pleasant end of the Isle of Skye, and the mountains are over on the Scottish mainland.

Two fine examples of the British male's favourite escape route- his shed! Actually, the one on the left is a typical loom shed. To comply with regulations, all genuine Harris Tweed has to be woven by hand and it is all woven by men in sheds just like this. Only quite recently did the width of the looms increase from 27 inches to the new double-width 54 inch fabrics, and many smaller sheds like this one were too small to fit the wider looms in and the sheds are falling into disrepair.

On the bow of a trawler in Stornoway harbour, what could this measure be? Tons of cargo on board perhaps? That's not the reason I took the shot though!

Too much silliness for a few days there, so back to the serious stuff! This really is a favourite for my boats series- matches up to my Mondriaan spatial divisions fixation as well as texture/colour/line details. Once again I have to admit, taken with my "only 5m/pixel" lovely previous camera- lots of resolution does not necessarily equate to better images. I'm off for a few days now, on a sudden mercy mission to help an injured friend, but will reply to all when I return.

Note to anyone visiting the Highlands- these fluffy darlings are actually quite a grumpy breed, their horns are very pointy and the ones with upturned horns are cows, downturned are bulls- you have been warned!! This is a fresh water loch they are cooling off in, (yes, it does get hot here!) and that is bog cotton in the foreground.

Here you can see my home and my first attempts at market gardening. I am trying to start a wild flower business, concentrating on the Flag Iris and Marsh marigold seen here in my front garden. Well, I had you going for a moment there!! Bit of fun for the weekend! This is a derelict house, the local model which followed yesterday's black house, and very typical of the Hebrides. The wild Irises and Marsh Marigolds (which both love to grow in bogs) show how wet it is here- no wonder the folks abandoned it!

This derelict blackhouse with its grass turf roof provides a fine home for the local starling population. I see the "modern" extension looks a bit more complete than the original part! Note how thick (about 900mm) the old walls are in the far right window reveal.

Again, this is an old (14 years) Fuji Provia transparency that hasn't been well looked after by me! I haven't tweaked it's colour or sharpness at all, as the colour seems to have survived, and I haven't cropped it, but I took ages cloning out all the fluff and dust!!

The same boat, location and time as my Saturday blog, with that same lovely sky. Again, I have de-saturated the yellows deliberately to help with the mood, but it does beg the question- if a photo is not an accurate reproduction, is it devalued, or valid interpretive art?

This is a scan from 15 years-old negative film that seems to have deteriorated slightly with being stored in an unheated garage! The grain is emphasised, but I rather like the end result.
