David from Skye: Hi Paul- I'm having a nightmare time with my internet. My service provider mistakenly closed my account, and when they tried to re-install it, the were told by BT that my "port" in the local telephone exchange had been given to someone else!! There are very few ports in the exchange, which is very small, and none available at the moment, so I have no broadband and can't upload photos with this snail-slow modem I have been forced to go back to. I have been told it could be months or even years before I get my broadband back, so I'm like Victor Meldrew with a headache right now!!

Any luck with a new port up there near Portree? On Berenay they had an open access Internet facility for the community. Isn't there anything like that in Portree? What are you doing with all your spare time from not blogging

David from Skye: No chance of getting broadband any time soon, I"m afraid, so I can't really blog until then (could be months or even years if my neighbour's experience is typical) I have had to go back to last century's technology and get a dial-up modem, but it is so incredibly slow to load images I don't have the patience and it means the phone would be out of use for hours at a time. Everything here seems to be twice as expensive and half as efficient compared to the mainland, so I have been spending my time finishing details on the house as I intend selling it and getting back to civilisation sadly. Hebridean life may seem romantic, but I have no internet, no mobile phone signal, no terrestrial tele signal, my satellite tele picture breaks up as soon as it rains (which is a lot!) there are no shops here and it costs twice as much to have everything sent here etc etc etc- I'm at a low ebb right now, feel like Victor Meldrew and all those grumpy old men, haven't even taken any decent pics as I'm not in the right frame of mind- I had better stop here before I get suicidal!! Thanks for caring though- deeply appreciated.

That's really bad news David. I'd normally say you could try one of the plug-in / dongle usb modems, but with no mobile network signal it sounds like you're stuffed on that account too....
